The Toyota Camry is a passenger car of the D segment produced by Japanese automaker Toyota . It is a five-seater with front engine and front wheel drive, of which there are six generations, offered for sale in 1983, 1987, 1992, 1996, 2002 and 2006 respectively. All generations of the Camry but the first were sold as Lexus ES, the second and third as Holden Apollo, and the last three as Daihatsu Altis.
The first generation was offered with body sedan four-door liftback hatchback. The petrol engines were a 1.8-liter 74 hp and 92 hp 2.0-liter, and diesel was a 2.0-liter 92-hp, turbocharged , all four cylinders in line.
The second generation Camry was put on sale in late 1986. The liftback was replaced by a family of five doors, while remaining the sedan version. In 1988, we added a model with four-wheel drive , the only of its kind in the history of the Camry.
The engines were a four-cylinder 1.8-liter, 86 hp, inline four-cylinder 2.0-liter, 110 hp and a six-cylinder 2.5-liter V and 156 hp, all gasoline.
The third generation was put on sale in Japan in 1990. According to U.S. standards, Toyota passenger cars jumped category – in the case of the Camry, went from being “medium” to “great.” To receive tax benefits, the Camry for the Japanese market had its width reduced to 1700 mm, and the export model (from 1770 mm wide) sold under the name Scepter.
